Playstation 3?
Does the Playstation 3 play the Playstation 2 games? I am thinking about getting a PS3 for my son's Birthday. But I don't want all his PS2 games to go to waste. THX Mathew C. I was getting ready to ask about the cost. Yeah, my som has collected almost a 100 games through the years! His PS2 is getting old and freezes up, so I figured I would get him the PS3 instead of another PS2

- Not on the 40 gb version... but they will work on the 60 and 80 gb version!!! i had the some problem i got the 40 gb and the games did not work!! but ithey will on the 60 and 80 gb dont know why they did that but they did!! weird!! lol

- hi, i have a playstation3 and 40gb playstation3s dont play ps2 games but 80gb ones do 80gb ones are 100$ more expensive though but some people would say its worth it depending on how many ps2 games youve collected... you can sell all ps2 games though...
- ONLY the 80GB Version can. So DONOT get the 40GB Version...
- The PS3 has four different SKU's ( 2 of which not longer exist - the 20 GB and the 60 GB models / GB = Gigabyte (referencing hard drive space)). A 20 GB model, A 40 GB model (which comes with the Spiderman 3 Blue-Ray disc), A 60 GB model and a 80 GB model (which comes with the Motorstorm game). Out of those four, the 60 GB and the 80 GB are backwards compatible with PS2 games. Below is a link to the 80 GB model. The 60 GB model has been discontinued.
- buy him the 40 GB version, and keep the PS2 for it's games, it isn't worth it to pay $100 more to get an extra 40 gigs and the ability to play 'most' ps2 games.
- 80 gb can. spend teh extra money on it. its very much worth.
- some not many to be honest its like buying your son a 2008 car but putting a 1925 engine inside if i was you take ll games and ps2 and sell it at a gamestop for credit and use that to buy him a xbox360 ps3 is not worth money more games on xbox360 and its alot better i have ps3 and xbox 360 and the wii yes i never grew up but xbox 360 is 100 times better and funner then all others out there
- The 80gb has the ability to play those ps2 games but only the majority of them ...so if some freezes up then that means it isn't compatible yet cause sony still has to make updates for so it could be 100% ps2 compatible the 60 gb ps3 would be the best choice but since the US aren't selling those anymore your best bet is the 80gb ps3 here's a comparsion of the two ps3 consoles: http://www.us.playstation.com/PS3/About/Comparison
