Make an Arcade machine MAME?

Hello, i want to build some Arcade machines, mainly for resale to make some money off :). I have been messing around with some software and have found Mame as well as GameEx, Gameex i would need to pay for as it needs a serial to get rid of the Nag screen, where is mame is free. Mame does not look nice like GameEx does, is there Skins or anything like that, that you can put on Mame? If so were can i get them from, also how do i install them? Thanks Im selling the actual machine not roms, I know all about roms, and how people must own the actual rom. AleSmith your not helping, im asking information on the emulator. I am selling the body of the machine, the monitor incased, the computer system incase, no roms will be included, but i would like software that can play games people own and would like on there. Thanks

  1. Getting it for free and then redistributing it for a profit goes beyond the pedestrian law breaking that comes with file sharing. You're looking at hard time in jail if you proceed with this. EDIT: ROMs are irrelevant, selling a MAME emulator is still illegal. Arcade units actually have hardware/software which must be purchased and sold legitimately like anything else.
  2. MAME LAW : http://mamedev.org/legalfaq.html Q) Can I include MAME with my product? A) In general, no. MAME is not a commercial product and is not generally available as a freebie you can throw in to add value to your product. There are exceptions to this rule for special cases. If you believe there is a compelling reason for us to allow you to include MAME with your product, you must contact us to obtain permission. As stated above from MAME, MAME is a free source but not ment to be exploited. Just as you may let family use water from your hose bib to wash their car, you would not want them and everyone in the town just using your water for free for long term. The water is the main ingredient (mame) and the supplies such as soap, rags, towels (roms) are used with and because of the water. Now that said! You can build machines, all day long. build it to be expandable. Example, I build my cabinets so they support, TV, Jukebox, MAME, Nintendo systems, PlayStation systems, Sega systems, NeoGeo, Atari Systems, Xbox, Intelevision, Apple, and PC computers, Plus Jamma and Jamma+ boards. Are they all connected at once NO could they? Yes In my Mega Cabinet. Make the Cabinet and control panel. Install monitor and controls. Then modulate the system part to a plug and play. Sell the cabinet, Sell systems, do not sell emulators! You can provide free Cd's and information on emulators that would work well with the cabinet you offer. You can offer a free set up with purchase. Or just wait for the lawyers to come , they will. Good luck, I keep mine as a hobby, Take my time and build quality not quantity. I like GameEx as my fount end. Yes you have to pay for it but it is well worth it.
  3. I really doubt that you want to include MAME and not ROMs with these machines you plan on selling. Plus the fact that you want to get rid of the Nag screens makes you seem even more suspicious. People like you are what gives the emulation scene a bad name. Trying to make money off the hard work of a talented team of people who do it all for free. I am guessing this is a half baked idea anyway considering you want Yahoo Answers to explain it all to you and you probably have no idea how to build a nice cabinet anyway. Get a life.
