I'm looking to buy a playstation 3 for my partners birthday, I don't have the £300 yet but am hoping to save it before then however if I can't who offers the best credit deals? Also can you play ps 2 games on the ps 3 consoles? Please help I'm a girl!? lol So I need to buy a 60gb for the ps 2 games to work? From what research I've done the 40gb is £300 and the 60gb is £350, I was going to go for the cheapest lol but a 40gb defo won't play ps 2 games? Sorry to be a pain in the arse but I can't find anywhere that sells the 60gb!?

  2. No you can't play PS2 games on the 40GB console (which is all that is available in the UK). I haven't heard if SCEE plan on releasing the 80GB console (like Japan and US) with the Metal Gear Solid 4 bundle. [edit] If you can get a new 60GB for only £50 more it is worth it. The European 60GB has the same compatibility as the 80GB sold elsewhere.

The 80 gig will play as rignt now 85% of the PS2 games and the 60 gig plays nearly all of them i would go with the 60 gig it has the ps2 engine thing in it so its not using emulation like the 80 gig soo..incase you dont really understand basicly the 60 gig is better to plat ps2 and i douno about the best credit deals =(
  4. The 60GB is probably the best to get and is widely available - you need to shop around for the best prices - it's £399 in Game for example and going for around £360 on ebay. The 60GB version also has wireless internet capabilities (802.11 b/g) The 40GB version is not compatible with PS2 games.
  5. Yes 40gb does not play ps2 but 60gb does with software emulation.
  6. -The 20 and 60 gig PS3s have the PS2 hardware inside and will play almost all PS2 games. -The 80 gig PS3 uses software emulation to play PS2 games. It will play most PS2 games but not as meny as the 20 and 60 gig PS3s. -The 40 Gig PS3 does not play PS2 games. The 60 gig is your overall best bet. It has the most features out of all the PS3 versions.
  7. 60 gb PS3 are not on the market at the moment....only the 40gb available in th UK. definately will NOT play PS2 games...the next model may do this. also you need a HDTV (although will work on normal) to get best use out of PS3. think first but am sure he like it whatever it does...it plays dvd's blueray dvd's divex files...can put music and photos on it (hence needing HDTV to get benefits) and also can plug surround sound into it. The PS2 is getting very aged now and i still feel the original xbox has better performance than PS2. I would get it but think whether you would both rather save for a high spec PC instead £800 will get you a cracker with graphics as good as PS3.
  8. the 40gb does not play ps2 games the 60gb does.the bad news the 60gb is now almost entirely sold out in the shops you may find one on the net or on ebay. the 80gb version will but currently there are non available in the uk until later this year when it is re released. don't worry too much about the ps2 games they look rubbish at the side of the new games and he'll finish up selling them all anyway
