How do pc games look on widescreen monitor?

I am planning to get a widescreen monitor.I was wondering if theese are also good for pc games (like san andreas, call of duty 2 ...). Do they work?.Also do they look good , or the image is unclear? Does san andreas, call of duty 2, c&c generals : zero hour, and new games look good? Do they make it to be compatible?

  1. some of the first person shooters only look good from a far distance, which is no better that a small screen up close.
  2. If you go to a wide screen TV. you will never play games on a small TV again. They are awsume and very clear
  3. Great
  4. I got an HP 21" flat panel widescreen monitor in the last six months and my experience with games on it is as follows. A game will look its best with the resolution set the same as the native resolution of your monitor. My monitor has a native resolution of 1680x1050. I have only two games in my library, Half-Life 2 and Unreal Tournament 2004, that support this resolution and they look absolutely incredible. On the other hand, games that do not support this resolution don't look as hot. Games that only support lower resolutions (I say lower, meaning lower than your widescreen's native resolution, such as 1024x768, 1280x1024, etc.) will look bad when played at full screen due to stretching of the pixels to fill the entire screen area. Some games, Doom 3 in my experience, can be played in a windowed mode, so the pixel ratio is 1:1 and there is no distortion of the image. But I personally don't like this, I haven't played Doom 3 on my new monitor since the first test run. The bad news is that most older games don't support widescreen resolutions. But as we are ushered into the HD era, most newer games will support higher widescreen resolutions. As for finding this out for a specific game before buying it, I don't know what to tell you. It's usually not printed on the box, but I guess you could try emailing somebody at the games website to find out. Hope this helped!
