I am thinking about buying a playstation 3...are there downfalls to them?

  7. Well, mine locks up alot, but the update seems to have helped with that. They are REALLY expensive but the graphics are amazing. I have an 11 year old son, and as a family, we enjoy the Wii alot more. It is just a personal preferance. Keep in mind, the PS3 does play Blu Ray movies and that does appeal to some people. The Wii does not play movies at all. Both are backward compatable.....but the PS3 has no slot for PS2 memory cards, but I heard there is an adaptor you can buy. You also can't use PS2 controllers on a PS3 and the controllers are expensive, but they are wireless. Hope that helps.
  8. Too expensive for a low quality of great games. I think the graphics are great however until MGS4 or a great FF game comes for the PS3, I'm not getting one.
  9. well I havent heard any problems with them so far, or at least no serious problems I guess. I heard that most of them wont fully support some games for PS2. Not only that, the games they have out there are not all that just yet. Blue ray support its a plus but so far it doesnt seem too bright for this technology. I mean its a very promesing technology. Who could of thought of having 25-50 GB of storage in a single disk? But who uses that much space for a game? I mean the regular DVDs that microsoft uses for their games are 4.7GB (I think) and they hardly get to use all that space. The technology is good but I dont think is necessary for the general public because no body will actually use that much space. I just hope that format doesnt just died out as others have in the past (mini disk for example) I would recommend getting a XBOX 360 for the reason that its got more games out there. PS3 sound promising. But 'til they get more games out there, it will only be a very expensive PS2.
  10. Currently, it does not have the best game line-up. If you're ok with missing out on BioShock, COD 4, Halo 3, etc. then go grab a PS3. I think that's it major downfall, but it does have big name exclusive titles coming through the pipeline. I am a 360 owner and may end up buying a PS3 in the next year or 2 for its upcoming exclusive games. If you are a current PS2 owner, DO NOT BUY the 40GB PS3 because it is not backwards compatible with PS2 titles!
  11. PS3 Cost- 40gig $399, 60gig and 80gig $499. What do you get for your money? You get 26gig+ size games produced on 50 gig Blueray disc. -----360 games are still produced on 8gig dvds *added bonus of Sony having Hd games on Blueray is not only that it gives game producers space for awesome graphics without sacrifing game size you also get to watch hd blueray movies. Ps3 is a full computer entertainment center that can be used from everything from MP3s to surfing the net on the big screen.The applications seem as limitless as a high end super computer. ( Still waiting for it to walk on water) 200 games out right Now and 300 more by march 08 including 19 more exclusives-Haze, Killzone 2, final fantasy, little big planet, Home, Metal Gear Solid 4, etc... you get the idea. Great examples of ps3 graphics and physics would include the following current titles ..Uncharted drakes fortune, Ratchet and clank FTOD , Resistance Fall of man, Motostorm, Lair, Heavenly sword etc..., Reliability PS3 (now watch the decimal) 0.02% failure rate..360 has been out for two years and has at least a a 33% failure rate ( see the difference in the placement of the decimal. ) The only downfall would be that the PS3 is considered the "bad boy" of consoles mostly by teens who just had to have the 360 in 05 when it came out instead of waiting to see if it was what a next gen system could be. PS3 has Call of Duty 4 in fact that's the game that caused 360 owners to scream that the multiplatform game producers are favoring the ps3 because the ps3 version on 50gig Blueray looked awesome and the physics were smooth. 360 version on limiting 8gig dvd looks pixalated, and the physics are at best chunky.
  12. no the only downfall is people complaining about not having great games which every system has including the 360 has during its 1st year span and how expensive it is those people are called haters that can afford it wish they had one hardware and software downfalls none sony has claimed that the ps3 has a life span of 10 years
